Glossary of Card Counting Terms

Back Counting

Entering into a game only after card counting and waiting for a favourable situation. Accomplished by standing behind the players.

Balanced Count

Counting system beginning at zero upon shuffle and ending at zero when all cards in the deck(s) have been viewed.

Betting Correlation

A measure of card counting accuracy made when the player views the cards upon removal from the deck. The strength of relationship between card weights and players favour.   

Bet Spread

Ratio of maximum to minimum bet size.

Card Weight

Value (usually 1, +1, or +2) assigned to each card face and added to the count.

Count

Number estimate of a players advantage.

Cover Bet

Large bet placed for the purpose of covering ones card counting.

Insurance Correlation

Measure of the strength of relationship between card weights and players advantage for placing insurance bets. Estimates the efficiency of ones card counting for predicting when to take insurance.
